Monserrate
Monserrate is a mounain in the Andes Mountains. It's one of the tourist destinations in Bogota, and a very historic place. Located at the top of the mountain is a historic church, cafeterias, and a little market with souveneir shops. All of this is located at 10,341 feet above sea level.
We took a cable car up the side of the mountain to get to
the top. The cable car was glass all the way around besideds the floor, I don't think I could have handled a glass bottom floor up that high! It was already an intersting ride to the top. It was feeling a little claustrophobic because in my opinion it was a few too many people in there! I guess it's a great way to meet new people, all crammed in a cable car going up the Andes Mountains! I just focused on the view and hoping the cable could carry all the weight!
All though it was a bit nerve wracking for me, it was an awesome experience! We even went through part of the mountain on the way up! I didn't imagine it would feel so strange after we got to the top. It was so hard to breathe, like I had a huge weight on me. It was also hard to walk because our bodies weren't used to that high of elevation. The view from the top was incredible of the whole city of Bogota!
When I was up there, the church was having a service. I didn't realize that the locals actually go up there for a church service. It was neat that it's not just a tourist destinaiton. The church was built in the 17th century and was a pilgrim destination.
