Christmas in the Caribbean!

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and soon to be Happy New Year! I spent my christmas on an island in the Caribbean. The island is off the coast of Colombia, so we flew into Cartagena and then took a one hour boat ride to the island. Some of you might be wondering why or how I chose an island in the Caribbean.
First of all, the reason why I chose an island, besides the no brainer part that it would be amazing and beautiful, the person I am traveling with told me to choose a place to travel to for Christmas. I started by looking at places near where we would be, which right now is Colombia. I didn't want to go anywhere I had already been, since I have been traveling all through South America the choices were slim. So I decided to open google maps and scroll around in the middle of the Caribbean to find islands. I looked at some of the more popular travel destinations like the Bahamas, Aruba, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, and other ones similar to those. I thought it would be amazing to see those places however I don't always like to go to the popular tourist places, I like to be off the beaten path!
Luckily, due to our hectic schedule and not exactly knowing my next destination I can never plan anything too far in advance. So I was planning this trip with such short notice that most of the places I tried to book with were already full. It's normal to book these kinds of christmas vacations way far in advance right? Well, not for a traveling hippie like me, I like to go with the flow and see where it takes me! I started checking islands that were small little pieces of land with names I didn't recognize. Which led me to this island we went to named "Isla del Pirata". It was the best decision to choose this island because it was a small family owned island and very private.
Our Christmas turned out to be one to not be forgotten. All though I didn't have my family to share it with, I had all I needed! Plus my one christmas wish this year was to get a real good tan, so I was able to fulfil that Christmas wish!
